The year was 2009. I was 29, teaching elementary school, living the married life and raising my small little family in a small little town. Suddenly, my life turned upside down when my Christian husband wanted a divorce - even though we promised to bury each other in the backyard before we would get divorced. WHAT?!!!??
Reality set in with a quickness - I didn't make enough to put a roof over our heads much less groceries on the table, pay for gas, a car, daycare and all the things that come along with raising a family as a single mom. After much searching I found the perfect fit for me - I'll be a personal trainer! It was my way of taking the lemons life threw me and making lemonade. I wanted to get my body back after babies and if I became a trainer, I could workout when I was away from the kiddos. Perfect! I would look better, feel better and make more money. There's my lemonade!
I spent the next several years doing everything I learned in school to "look" like a trainer. I counted calories, ran, worked in HIIT training, Tabata, spin, strength training, and every other thing I could think of. The harder I worked, the worse I felt and the more "diagnosis" I added to my health profile. It just didn't make sense! I was doing everything right and nothing worked!
The programs I created worked for 80% of my clients...but not for me, and not for a handful of women who did everything right and saw minor improvements with major dedication. What was going on?!??
I searched and I searched. I vowed to keep searching until I found the answer to help not only myself, but the clients who did it all and saw little results compared to the effort and discipline they put in.
It took over a decade of searching, trying, testing and ultimately creating what I teach today. A program that focuses on energy first, strength second, and living a life where every day is sprinkled with the things that bring you joy.
